MathCon is a flagship project that aims to promote math appreciation among students of the Loyola Schools, specifically non-math majors. It aims to do this by showcasing the various applications of mathematics to different fields and disciplines.

In the previous years, MathCon was a three-day convention featuring interactive booths and displays which members of the Loyola Schools community may use to learn more about various applications of math. It was punctuated by a talk on the culminating day given by speakers who utilize mathematics in their specific fields. In the previous years, MathCon had over 300 participants per event.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, MathCon 2020 will be shifting to online platforms, and thus, will be open to students both in and out of the Ateneo. It will be a week-long online convention consisting of webinars, which will be supplemented by an event website that summarizes the talks’ highlights and allows the audience to explore related topics in more detail. The event will be held this October 5-10, 2020 and December 7-12, 2020 in Zoom through Facebook Live. With the theme MathCon 2020: Numbers Demystified, this year’s MathCon will delve deeper into the intersection of mathematics with startup businesses, data science, psychology, astrophysics, public finance, and indigeneous textiles.
