Likith Govindaiah

About the Speaker

Likith Govindaiah is a trader at Jane Street, a quantitative trading firm and liquidity provider with a unique focus on technology and collaborative problem-solving.
 
Likith obtained an undergraduate degree in mathematics at Princeton University. Born in Bangalore, he grew up in the US Midwest where his passion for Math began. While in high school, he participated in various math competitions which led him to pursue math in University. Likith was anticipating a career in academia but that changed once he started playing poker with his friends at Princeton, where he realized he would love to pursue a career in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment. Likith interned with Jane Street at the New York office in 2016 where he enjoyed working with smart, humble people who tend to help each other and prioritize teamwork over title.  He decided to take up a full-time trading position with Jane Street. After spending 2 years at their New York office, Likith took up a mobility opportunity to join their Hong Kong office to experience the fast-growing Asian markets.
 
Likith enjoys trail running and bouldering in his spare time.

Synopsis

What exactly does buying low and selling high mean? This talk gives a glimpse of how you can use different data types to come up with a well-rounded decision in market making. The basic principles of electronic markets and quantitative trading, such as identifying patterns and deciding what type of model to use, will be tackled. Examples of applications of such principles in real-life markets will be given, along with how Jane Street takes it further by taking and increasing liquidity. Finally, we will also share our company culture, current opportunities, and role in achieving a healthy financial ecosystem.
